The Olx app was used by the 37-year-old complainant to promote the sale of used clothing on May 17. A guy posing as a dealer in used clothing and furnishings called her on May 19.
He informed the complainant that she was not need to sell on Olx since he had a store in Andheri and would buy any clothing. In two days, the complainant submitted pictures of old garments to the individual who wanted to share them on WhatsApp.
He told her over the phone on May 25 that he would pay her through Paytm and that he would send a guy to pick up all the clothing. He supplied a QR code as well. She received a Rs 2 deposit into her account after scanning the QR code. Later, the man emailed her 11 QR codes, which she scanned in order to discover that she had been scammed of Rs 8,50,001, which had been taken out of her account during the scanning process.
When she realized she had been duped, she went to the Kharghar police station and filed a report. In response to the allegation, police began an investigation and filed a case against the unidentified individual for cheating under section 420 of the IPC and section 66 D of the IT Act.
