New Delhi: According to reports, fraudsters using stolen soft copies of Aadhaar and ID cards belonging to CISF and Army officers have tricked at least 37 individuals on the online classified platform OLX.
The CISF and Army headquarters have received a deluge of calls and emails over the last two days, some of which contain harsh remarks that cast doubt on the moral character of the men in uniform and accuse their staff members of defrauding prospective clients on OLX.
Although the majority of the incidents were reported from Rajasthan, several also occurred in Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, as per information from the Army and CISF headquarters.
After conducting an internal investigation, the CISF discovered that policeman Shrikant had given a copy of his Aadhaar card to a guy named Abhishek Srigul, who had identified himself as a Maharashtra police constable, in order to purchase an iPhone on OLX.
After paying Srigul Rs 23,000 but not receiving the phone, he filed complaints at the Vakola and Cyber City police stations in BKC, Mumbai.
It was discovered that the policeman, who had been the target of obscenities in emails, was also a victim. A CISF official stated, "He had given the merchant access to his Aadhaar card, which was subsequently exploited.
The investigator said, "After doing more investigation, we discovered that the con artists have been deceiving people online using various ID documents, including the Aadhaar cards of numerous defense personnel.
